Sparing Eifect on the Folic Acid Requirement of Streptococcus Lactis by 5-amino-2,4-bis(substituted-amino)pyrimidines1

چکیده
Enzyme induction in Escherichia coli is stimulated by certain 5-amino-2,4-bis(substitutedamino)pyrimidines (Kunkee, 1960a). Other 2,4diaminopyrimidines have been reported to be antagonists of folic acid (Hitchings et al., 1952; Doctor, 1956). Since there are indications that the stimulation of enzyme induction involves nucleic acid metabolism (Kunkee, 1960b) and since folic acid is involved in nucleic acid precursor synthesis (Rogers and Shive, 1948), we wished to determine what effect the 5-amino-2 ,4bis(substituted-amino)pyrimidines might have on folic acid metabolism. E. coli has no growth requirement for folic acid and enzyme induction in E. coli is not affected by folic acid either in the presence or in the absence of the compounds which stimulate induction (Kunkee, 1960a). Therefore, to discover a relationship between folic acid and the substituted pyrimidines, we studied the folic acid requirement for growth of streptococci.

متن کاملRelation of growth of Streptococcus lactis and Streptococcus cremoris to amino acid transport.
The maximum specific growth rate of Streptococcus lactis and Streptococcus cremoris on synthetic medium containing glutamate but no glutamine decreases rapidly above pH 7. Growth of these organisms is extended to pH values in excess of 8 in the presence of glutamine. These results can be explained by the kinetic properties of glutamate and glutamine transport (B. Poolman, E. J. Smid, and W. N. ...

A new series of 5-substituted-3-methylsulfanyl-1-(2,4-dinitro phenyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl esters were synthesized by reacting the amino group of 5-amino-3-methylsulfanyl-1-(2,4-dinitro phenyl)-1H-pyrazole-4carboxylic acid ethyl ester with acid anhydrides, acid chlorides and phenyl dithiocarbamates. The title compounds were investigated for analgesic, anti-inflammatory and ulcero...
متن کاملBitter Peptide Isolated from Milk Cultures of Streptococcus Cremoris.
Certain cultures of Streptococcus cremoris produced a bitter taste that occurred in the whey portion of milk cultures. Whey from a culture which produced bitterness was fractionated on Sephadex. The fraction in which the bitter taste was concentrated was chromatographed successively on paper with butanol-acetic acid-water (5:1:4), and then butanol-2-butanone-water (2:2:1). In each instance, the...

The cyclization of b-anilino propionic acids in the presence of polyphosphoric acid (PPA) afforded the 2,3-Dihydroquinoline-4-(1H)-ones in good yields. N,N'-bis(2-carboxyethyl)-4-methyl-1,2-diaminobenzene (7) is cyclized under this condition to produce the 1,5-diaza-2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-4-methyl-pheranthrene-4,8-dione(bis-quinolone) (8).
